Feeling the Birthday Love!

Wednesday we celebrated my birthday, and it was magical! My husband took me out for dinner to a restaurant I had been dying to eat at since it had opened. Felix Bar and Bistro which is nestled in Sydney’s Ash Street laneway.

I really loved the intimate atmosphere of the restaurant, and we were given a nice booth area to sit in, which helped to keep things a bit cosy! Felix is designed as a tribute to the French brasserie. The interiors feature amazing touches like walls featuring real Parisian subway tiles, imported French chandeliers, a beautiful pewter bar and food delivered by waiters in traditional long-aprons.

It really did feel like we were in Paris again!

For our main meal, we both decided upon the March in to Merrivale Special. This is a great initiative run throughout all Merrivale establishments over February and March.  Here at Felix, for $33 you can choose a main meal with a glass of wine to accompany your meal. We opted for the very delicious Lamb navarin, spinach, Dutch carrots, potato and herb croquettes. The meat literally melted in your mouth as you ate it. I haven’t had lamb cooked that perfectly in a long time. It was superb!

Now, as you all know, I have a love affair with cheese. So no birthday would be complete without a cheese plate. We selected 3 delicious cheeses from the menu and had the sommelier select a perfectly matching wine to accompany them. I was in heaven, especially with that blue cheese!

Felix really was a wonderful venue, and one I hope to eat at again very soon. The service was impeccable and staff were very friendly and welcoming.  Highly recommended if you haven’t dined there yet, it was wonderful!

From here, it was time to move on to a nightcap, before sadly going home to end my birthday celebrations. We had heard wonderful things about Palmer and Co. situated in Abercrombie Lane, so with a short walk from Felix, we were there (and back in the 1920′s)

This is a true speak-easy style venue in Sydney! You feel like you’ve stepped back in time as you wander down the stairs, into the brick laden bar, with low hanging lights and flapper dressed waitresses.

The night we were there, live music was playing and it was very busy – but we managed to secure a seat and sit back and marvel at the decor.

I had a fabulous birthday, and really enjoyed both venues! Nothing beats the thrill of going somewhere new, and if they have great food and wonderful cocktails – how can you go wrong?

  1. What a happy birthday indeed! You both looked beautiful & you are right, the food is sublime at Felix.
I went there for my birthday in October last year!!!
I need to go to that bar though; I hadn’t heard of it before!
